The Perfect Vegan Bac’n BLT

Crispy, juicy, creamy and fully plant-based, this Vegan Bac'n BLT is a simple sandwich done right. Happy Veggie World Bac'n brings the smoky, savoury bite, while ripe tomatoes, crisp lettuce, toasted bread and creamy vegan mayo make it a classic comfort-food favourite. The secret is in the details: crisp the Bac'n properly, season the tomatoes, toast the bread and keep the toppings simple.

Instructions

  1. Season the tomato

Slice the tomato and lay the slices on a plate. Sprinkle lightly with sea salt and black pepper and let sit for 5 to 10 minutes while you cook the Bac'n. Before assembling, gently blot the slices with a paper towel so the sandwich stays juicy without the bread going soggy.

  2. Cook the Bac'n

Preheat a non-stick skillet over medium. Add the oil, then lay the Bac'n strips out in a single layer. Cook over medium-low for 8 to 10 minutes, turning occasionally, until heated through and crisped to your liking. Transfer to a plate while you prepare the bread.

  3. Toast the bread

Toast the bread until golden and sturdy enough to hold the fillings. For an extra diner-style BLT, lightly spread vegan mayo on the outside of the bread before toasting it in a skillet.

  4. Build the BLT

Spread vegan mayonnaise generously on each slice of toast. Layer the lettuce on the bottom slice first to create a barrier between the tomato and the bread. Add the seasoned tomato, then the crispy Bac'n. Finish with the second slice of toast.

  5. Slice and serve

Cut the sandwich in half and serve immediately while the Bac'n is warm and crisp.

Why this BLT works

A great BLT is all about balance. The Bac'n should be warm and crispy, the tomatoes ripe and lightly seasoned, the lettuce cold and crunchy, and the bread toasted enough to hold everything together. Keep the ingredients simple and let the Bac'n stay the star.

Make it a vegan BLAT

Add sliced avocado for a Bac'n, Lettuce, Avocado and Tomato sandwich. For best results, season the avocado with a pinch of salt, pepper and a squeeze of lemon or lime before adding it.

Serve it with

  • Potato salad
  • Cucumber salad
  • Sweet potato fries
